If I were a dog
I would not have whined as soon as I entered this amazing and novel world I would not have had cousins, and aunts, and uncles causing a hullabaloo over my presence I would have had to squabble with 5 of my brothers and sisters for my mom’s attention I would have been separated from my folk well before my 1st birthday I would consider myself fortuitous if I stayed with the same family a year into my existence I would have to work my tiny butt off and hope against hope that my parents had a decent enough day so I could get my paw on that elusive treat I would often have to spend torturously long passages of time alone in my new home without access to any kind of socialization I would often have to shower my owner with immeasurable love without an aorta of treason even after going through prison time I would have to follow my parents without question with a vexing leash showing me my place every step of the way I would have had to sit, stay, lie down, run, and fetch, all within a minute, with a tantalizing piece of meat dangling from my dad’s hands only to discover that I would have to do it all over again to get anywhere close to the meat What I’d give to see this world through the eyes of my puppy!
What’s in a name?
What did Shakespeare have in mind when he said what he said about names? Did he ever encounter Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas or Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda? The South Indians and the Lankans would agree that the sweetness of the rose sorely depends on the name it bears. In fact, this quote by an anonymous author is more apt for us.
Better to see the face than to hear the name.
